Brunel’s Great Western Town

The town of Neyland owes its existence to the ambition and planning of one man, Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

While his vision was never completely fulfilled, the railway that Brunel brought to Neyland in 1856 was the foundation for a period of economic prosperity that would endure until the post-war depression of the 1920s and 30s brought it to an end.

Neyland experienced ups and downs throughout the 20th century, with new industries growing up to take the place of the old ones that had died.

This website will introduce you to the history of Neyland and Llanstadwell, and to the people who created it.
